Make It With Mummy

Grace decided she was having far too much fun in the sun & wanted instead to mess up my kitchen, fight with her brother & make me weep copiously. In order to do this, we made cookies! Sugar cookies, except these went a teeny bit fabulous (and by that I mean wrong) and to celebrate, have now been renamed 'splat cookies'

For this mess, I mean delicious, happy, fun task you will need;

225g of butter ( room temp)

200g of sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 teaspoons baking powder

130g plain flour

Sprinkles

Small bag or handful of choc chips / slithers

Ok, let's get started!

Cream together the butter & sugar ( takes all of 5 mins if butter is room temp & you are an adult- if you are a child you have to allow lots of time for your brother to keep sticking his fingers in to 'test' it I'd reckon on a good extra ten mins for this & the accompanying fight that ensues)

Now mix in the egg & vanilla. It will look curdled, that's fine ( "that looks gross/ I'm not eating that!!") , just mix it all in.

See? All fine.

In a separate bowl, mix your dry ingredients together then gradually add to the slimey mess in the first bowl, mixing well.

Now, once it's all combined, this is where you roll out your dough on a lightly floured surface & cut out shapes using cute little cutters.

However, if you are at this stage, congratulations! You're a better cook than me because we just had to slop out spoonfuls of runny, splodgy mix on to a baking parchment covered baking tray. Either way, this is where you go made with sprinkles! Yay!

After I had slopped out half, I mixed in the choc chips to the remain half & then doll oped that out on a tray too.

Into the oven they went

Bake for about 12 mins at 200c, but check after 8 mins.

Hope fully they will be like this, not too brown, but quite firm.

Voila! They tasted really nice, even though they didn't go to plan! Not sure all if it was worth all the fights/ tears/mess/cleaning but at least it was something we did together & they really enjoyed it! Couldn't convince Daddy to try one though........

Oh, here is Hugh's effort at clearing up ;
